In general prices in Iceland have been rising, mostly due to the Icelandic króna‘s increase in value. But the good news is that prices for rental cars availble from Keflavik International Airport, near Reykjavik, haven‘t followed the same trend. According to a survey conducted by Turisti.is the rental prices this summer are lower today than they were last year and compared to our survey in 2014 a 2 weeks rent costs 130EUR/145USD less now than 3 years ago.
Today you can expect to pay at least 52EUR/58USD per day for a car rented for 2 weeks this summer. That is much more reasonable than before and harder competition is the main factor for this change. Even big brands like Hertz and Avis are now offering much lower rates than before.

Car Hire at Keflavik Airport – short guide
At the Terminal building there are only service desks for few car rental companies. Most of the others are located in a different buildings and its recommended to use the shuttle service, both when you pick-up the rental car and also when you return it. The Shuttle stops ca. 100 meters across from the Arrival Hall, at the end of the short-term parking.
There are 2 different gas-stations on the airport area, at Arnarvollur 3 and Arnarvollur 6 (click for Google maps).
